The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos and The Creative Curriculum for Preschool

The Creative Curriculum is designed for children from Infancy to Five years of age. This program identifies four areas of learning; Social/Emotional, Physical, Cognitive and Language. We, at Monarch Little Learners Academy, are aware that children learn, not only in different stages, but also at different paces. Monarch Little Learners Academy supports the curriculum as a shared philosophy, as we believe that children learn best by being active and using all their senses to explore and grow The fundamental beliefs of the Creative Curriculum reflect upon and encourage establishing positive relationships; recognizing development; appreciating cultural, family and individual differences and requires the provision of responsive, nurturing care.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice in the Curriculum defines the foundation of learning for all children. The influence of the Creative Curriculum guides educators for proper classroom set-up. Through well defined learning areas children are able to play and learn in small groups, with teacher-guided play to encourage brain, physical, and social/language stimulation. The materials in the different learning areas of the classrooms are accessible to the children, allowing freedom of choice and exploration. When children explore on their own they discover new ways of thinking, problem-solving, communicating and using their own skills to make individual accomplishments.

The educators at Monarch Little Learners Academy focus on the abilities of the individual children in their care, by using continuous means of observation. Once the foundation of learning is established, the teachers are then able to offer appropriate challenges to the children as individuals as well as to the class as a whole; in order to promote the next stage of development. All children have their own unique characteristics and strengths, and the Creative Curriculum identifies and celebrates each child as an individual. Monarch Little Learners Academy is present each step of the way to help guide young children and build trusting relationships between home and school.

The Harcourt Storytown Curriculum for Preschool

Storytown Curriculum Framework

The Harcourt Storytown Curriculum is designed for pre-kindergarten children age three to five. Five subject areas are covered within the framework of the curriculum and those subjects include: Storytown (early literacy skills), Math, Science, My Place (Social Studies), and Health. The program centers on the integration of literacy into all subject areas, and requires a unique approach to doing so. Monarch/ChildPro services children with a number of special needs and the curriculum is very contusive to providing opportunities for differentiated instruction. Our teachers are encouraged to use their talents along with the framework of the curriculum to develop learning experiences for all children. This framework has been integrated into all of our classrooms at Monarch/ChildPro.

Child Development

Storytown targets early literacy skills as a crucial component to child development. The tools and materials provide a wonderful learning experience for all of our children. The children are encouraged to utilize these tools on a daily basis, and the teaching teams are constantly providing new and exciting opportunities for growth. As these early literacy skills begin to develop, the children will begin to make some connections inside and outside of the classroom. Early literacy skills are the backbone to understanding rhyming, letter recognition, sight words, and reading it self. These are all skills that will be a major part of their kindergarten experience.

Family Perspective

Storytown explores a number of cultural experiences throughout the program. Our program services children from though out Erie County and we do our best to focus on the unique characteristics of each of them. Many of our children come from different cultures and experiences and we embrace it. Storytown does a wonderful job of integrated cultural experiences and understanding into the approach. We are open to parent involvement and encourage carry-over to each and every child's home.

Handwriting Without Tears for Preschool

Handwriting Without Tears is a special program to help your child learn handwriting in a unique and fun way! It's more than paper and pencil…it's creating letters with playdough and writing in different textures like shaving cream and sand! The program start with teaching children the letter 'L' due to the process of writing this letter, as opposed to 'A' which has angles.
